Sgt George Henry Wood enlisted on 30/11/15 when he was 29 yrs 9 mths He was born in Sydney and married to Josephine Harriet. His occupation carter and grocery assistant 5'5" 123lbs Blue Eyes Auburn Hair. His company the 42nd Battalion D Coy embarked at Sydney on the A30 Borda on 5/6/1916 and disembarked Southampton 23/7/1916 14/2/1916 Promoted to Corporal 31/3/1917 Promoted to Lance Sergeant 19/6/1917 Promoted to Sergeant Gunshot wound to shoulder and back 12/8/1917 Messines, France Returned to Australia per A72 HT Beltana 18/10/1917
The Chronicle of 11 February 1916, p7 reported that Pte G Woods [sic] was given a send-off with R Lait, T Loosemore, WT Gay and Bugler E Abraham. The men were presented with pocket watches.
Welcome home reported in the Chronicle 15 March 1918, p5 for Corp GH Woods.
