John Voelker was the son of George William and Maria Voelker (nee Foyne). He spent his early years on his parent`s farm at Dulong in the Nambour District. The family later moved to Ormiston and enlistment he was listed as a farmer. He served in Egypt throughout World War I where he was wounded in April 1918. He also contracted malaria and was hospitalised for two months between November 1918 and January 1919. After his discharge from the AIF he went to the goldfields at Bulolo in New Guinea where he again suffered from malaria. He returned to Queensland and began the Redland Bay to Brisbane bus run. His health deteriorated and he moved to Shepperd Street Brighton. John was buried in the Anzac section of Lutwyche Cemetery on 4 August 1952. He was not married.
