Ernest was born in Laidley and attended school at Laidley and Forest Hill.

On leaving school he took up the occupation of horse breaker.

His mother Catherine Glover and his stepfather Henry Glover had moved to Cooran on the North Coast line when Ernest enlisted on 10 June 1916 and Catherine was given as his next of kin.

Ernest served in France where he was wounded in action on the 13 October 1917.Hhe returned to Australia on 26 August 1919 per "Prinz Hubertus" and was discharged on the 28 September 1919.

He married Eva Rose Miller in Gympie in 1920.

In July 1931 he discovered gold bearing quartz at Fall's Creek Cooran where he pegged out a claim.

With the outbreak of WWII he again enlisted 19 Dec 1940 and served in the 5th Light Horse and 5th Motor Regiment, was discharged 22 September 1943.

His Medals included; British War Medal, Victory Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal
